Built by job seekers, for job seekers.
FirstPost was founded in the UK by two ex-Plymouth University students after losing patience with the state of the job-search industry. This is our story, who we are, and what we do differently.
Why we built FirstPost
If you've spent any time job-hunting on the major aggregators in the last few years, you know the experience has gotten worse, not better. We did. And eventually we got tired of it.
Some of the patterns that pushed us over the edge:
- Sponsored placements. Too many search results were paid placements that did not match our searches, including irrelevant industries and locations. Useful matches were pushed below whatever an advertiser had paid to promote.
- Stale or unclear listings. Roles that appeared filled or outdated kept returning in results. We could not tell whether they were stale, reposted for a future hiring round or still genuinely open.
- Duplicate repostings. The same role from the same company appeared under different titles, often through different recruitment agencies. It was rarely clear which listing, if any, came from an agency with a current relationship to the employer.
- Suspicious contact after applications. After applying through major job boards, we started receiving scam calls and recruiter emails at contact details used in those applications. The timing made us uneasy, but it did not prove which service had passed the details on.
Job seekers are stressed, vulnerable and time-poor. We wanted a service paid for by users who choose Pro, without sponsored ranking or selling applicant data. That is the gap FirstPost exists to close.
How we're different
We took a deliberately narrow approach. FirstPost monitors employers' career pages and public job boards, then delivers a personalised daily digest of new openings filtered to your CV, target companies and preferences.
- No sponsored listings. Companies don't pay us to appear higher in your feed. The order is determined by relevance to you, full stop.
- Roles from career pages and public job boards. We monitor employers' own sites as well as national and public job boards. If a source is temporarily unavailable, recently found roles may remain in your feed for a few days, so a removed role can occasionally still appear.
- No data selling. Your email, CV, and preferences are used solely to run your alert feed. We don't sell, share, or rent your data to third parties. Our privacy policy spells it out, and we mean it.
- Recurring source checks. We monitor employer career pages and public job boards on recurring schedules, so some roles can reach your feed before they appear on a large aggregator.
- Personalised, not curated. The feed is filtered to your CV's keywords, your target industries and seniority, your work-arrangement preferences, and your location. Whatever doesn't match doesn't show up.
If that sounds simple - it is. The hard part isn't conceptual; it's the engineering work to monitor over 200,000 companies, parse 30+ different applicant tracking systems, and consolidate the feed into a clean digest. That's what FirstPost has been building since April 2026.
Who we are
FirstPost was founded in April 2026 by Omar A. and Ben D., who first met as students at Plymouth University. The company is registered and operated in the UK; both founders had first-hand experience of the problems above - which is how the project started in the first place.
Both founders work across business and product; Omar handles all of the engineering, and Ben leads marketing. It's a two-person team by design - small enough to ship quickly, respond to user feedback personally, and make decisions without committee. If you email hello@firstpost.io, one of us reads it.
Omar A. - Engineering
Omar's path into tech wasn't direct. He read Financial Economics as an undergraduate before completing a Masters in Finance at Cardiff University, then worked briefly in management consultancy in London before pivoting into the tech industry. He's spent the years since working his way up - Helpdesk Analyst, then Systems Administrator, and most recently Cloud Engineer - and now handles the entire engineering side of FirstPost: the scrapers, the API, the data pipeline, the dashboard, and the cloud infrastructure that ties it together. You can find him on LinkedIn.
Ben D. - Marketing
Ben leads marketing and the business side at FirstPost. He prefers to keep his professional profile private but is reachable via the shared hello@firstpost.io address.
What we believe
A few principles that drive how FirstPost is built:
- Job seekers shouldn't be the product. The mainstream aggregator model treats applicants as inventory. We treat them as customers - our incentives align with finding you a real job, not extracting attention.
- Speed matters more than scale. A single relevant role today beats fifty stale matches a week from now. We optimise for time-to-application, not breadth-of-listings.
- Transparency over tricks. No dark patterns, no dishonest pricing, no fake-scarcity countdown timers, no bait-and-switch trial flows. The pricing on our pricing page is the pricing you pay.
- Quiet, useful, professional. No five-emails-a-day "engagement" sequences. One daily digest, plus the occasional service email. That's it.
